Ab Bench | A Big Waste of Money

Ab BenchEvery time I’m at the gym, I can’t believe the Ab Bench is still around. Furthermore, I can’t believe people buy them. Why would you want to buy a piece of fitness equipment that does stuff you can do on your own. You can find something at home to create the same effect of an Ab Bench. All you need is a flat board or surface that’s placed on an incline.

Even though you can make this at home and save your self a $100 bucks, I still wouldn’t recommend it; even if you can make it for free. The exercise performed from the Ab Bench presents the same problem as the behind-the-neck lat pull-downs. These lat pull-downs strain your neck and shoulders and it has been proven, yet meat heads in a gym near you are probably doing it right now.

The harm associated with the Ab Bench is that it puts unnecessary strain on your low back. It’s best to do ab crunches and sit-ups on a decline and not an incline. You get the same if not better results and you won’t be limping around with a noodle for a spine when your 45.

Gym equipment like the Ab Bench never cease to amaze me. You would think they would get rid of this crap. I’m also aware that they can be used safely if you’re in-shape, but for the majority of people who are not, they are at a greater risk of injury.

The lack of knowledge about health and fitness really aggravates me. It aggravates me as much as seeing the muscle head at the gym put 3-45 lb. weights on each end of the bench press just to impress some chick, and then it drops on him like a ton of bricks. It’s funny, but it’s also aggravating. I recommend that everybody, no matter what their skill level is, to educate themselves on proper fitness training. If you want to train your abs and get them in tip top shape, you need to read Ab Truths. If you want to be a bodybuilder, you need to read The Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding. This just makes sense.

Machines don’t work. Education does!
