Ab Rocket | Warning

Ab RocketThe Ab Rocket is an abdominal exercise machine like many of the other infomercial and “as seen on tv” products. I think the Ab Rocket theoretically is a decent product. Perhaps the best thing is that it has a spring loaded device in the pivot point that alleviates stress and strain on the low-back. That however, is really the only thing I like about it and personally I only like that feature because I have scoliosis and low back issues, so it made the ab rocket more comfortable.

My concern with that feature however is that it’s taking away from training some major muscle groups in your low back as well as your lower abs. After about two weeks this thing became too easy for me and I felt like I was in a rocking chair. I’m not the only one though.

Here’s what someone said in a review on Walmart.com:

Ab-rocket don’t waste your money, 04/29/2009
I purchased the ab-rocket due to the many high reviews i should of read further. Do you know when your baby is say about 7 months and you get them a bouncer. Well this is just an adult version of that. It does nothing for your abs it just bounces you back and forth how is this to work your muscles. You don’t even use them. It is a total waste of your time and money. I have had it for a week and the only person whom liked it was my 13 yr old using it as a foot rest while he played his video games. Him and my 17 year old daughter made fun of it and said it was a joke don’t waste your time and money on this its just another piece of junk you will put in a yard sale for 2 dollars.

Here’s another problem… The quality as you can imagine is terrible. It is very flimsy. I was hoping they would use high steel grade aluminum. They may say they don’t, but it certainly is not. I also don’t like the Ab Rocket, because I believe they’re down right liars. On their box they say that it provides a side oblique workout. It certainly does not and it’s obvious when you look at the construction of the product. The side bars prevent you from making any motion besides and upwards and downwards motion with your back flush against the roll pads.

I was also disappointed because they try to pawn off the roll pads as if they give you a massage. They do not. While I will say it’s not uncomfortable, don’t believe the hype. The roll pads DON’T give you a massage! The roll pads also wear really quickly and eventually some of them don’t roll anymore after a while, so it forces your back to stall at moments when you’re leaning back.

In conclusion, here’s my main dilemma with this product:

1. Poor quality – I feel like I’m going to break the darn thing.

2. Not fit for long term use – This product feels like you’re in a rocking chair.

3. No side oblique workout capability – What good does it do to have a flat stomach with a tire around your waist. A.K.A love handles.

Being a fitness junky, I really believe in and prefer old school methods of health and fitness to achieve results. Many people don’t achieve fitness goals and body transformations because they don’t understand the basic foundations of how the human body works and responds to nutrition, weight loss, and muscle gains.

I came across a book online recent called Ab Truths. I think the book is titled very appropriately, because there’s a truth that people need to realize and accept before start any abdominal exercise. These infomercial products simply don’t cut it. Please do not waste your money on the Ab Rocket!
