As I’m giving my two cents about this Ab Roller, my eye keeps moving towards the picture. Look at how basic this thing is. Is it really worth paying for? No!
The problem with the Ab Roller is that it doesn’t allow you to fully use your abs. If you’re even midly out of shape and you use this thing, you will immediately notice yourself arch your back, strain your back, pump your bicep, and push the high-bar forward, while your abs sit their getting a measly secondary workout.
Another interesting thing to note about this picture to the right is that there’s a fitness model in the picture. She makes it look so fun and so easy right? She’s attractive and she is in great shape. Doesn’t it make you want to buy it so you can look like her? Ok before you do, think about this… Besides the obvious marketing purpose based on what I just mentioned, why couldn’t they demonstrate this exercise with a “real women.” As we know everyone’s not a size 0, and if you’re not in top physical condition the Ab Roller will be too difficult for you.
But even if you are in excellent shape, I still advise against it, because as I stated above, your abs become the secondary muscle group exercised when it should be the first. This is a flaw in the design, however it’s not something that can be fixed.
When you’re seeing infomercials with products like these and you’re trying to determine rather it’s worth while or not, you need to really get educated and understand how your muscles function and co-exist. All infomercial products are designed to make something easier. That is completely contrary to the way weight loss, abdominal training, and any and all forms of weight training work.
Unfortunately, weight training is not easy. If it were everybody would be in shape. Weight training can be difficult and at times you will want to quit. The biggest reason people quit is because they follow these crash course diet and exercise plans and they don’t see results.
Many consumers are also complaining about the poor quality of The Ab Roller. Read this review from Walmart.com:
Cheap, 04/08/2009
“This product is very poorly made. The head piece has two screws that go into a half inch piece of wood. One hole lined up perfectly, the second hole did not line up and when screwing it in cracked the entire wood piece in half. Needless to say it is useless now, unless you don’t mind resting your head on a hard metal bar. You get what you pay for with this product.”
If you get educated on weight training, you will see results quickly once you put the plan into action. I found and read a book recently called Ab Truths. It’s great and I highly recommend it. It explains in depth how to make your workouts effective and how specifically you can target and train your abs.
