The Ab Lounge is kind of strange isn’t it. It’s like those cheap, flimsy, scary, and annoying foldable beach chairs at swimming pools, except you exercise with it. I think the concept makes sense and I actually believe you get a good workout from it if your in-shape already.
Being in-shape is the keyword. I used the floor-model of the Ab Lounge at a local sporting goods store and I kind of liked it. Again, I thought it was strange. But it was a decent piece of equipment.
My mother was there with me and she tried it and she couldn’t do it. She was afraid she was going to tip over and she didn’t have the strength to pull her self up. Needless to say, she’s out of shape and she couldn’t use it. She even complained of feeling vertigo at one point.
I really don’t like this thing. I have two reasons why:
1. It looks retarded. Are you really going to sit in your living room and workout with a make-shift lawn chair? Come on people, this is silly and ridiculous.
2. It is built very poorly. This thing is really really cheap and unsturdy. When I tried getting up from it, I felt like it was going to collapse in on me like those old cartoons of characters getting smashed in-between foldable beds. If you’re over 180 lbs. as I am, you are most certainly to big for this thing.
3. It’s unpractical. I’m really sick of fitness product infomercials soliciting their products to people who are overweight and then showing skinny people who are in shape using their product. It’s because THEY’RE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN USE THE PRODUCT! If you’re over 180 lbs. you might not even be able to fit in the Ab Lounge. Look at this picture to the left. The models are stick thin and it looks like there is only maybe 4 inches of room on the sides of them at best! If you’re overweight this won’t work for you.
4. It’s just plain weird. It feels like you’re being bound as some sort of sex slave. I hate to put it that would but it’s true. Look at the picture. The models have both hands and feet strapped to the machine. I’m sorry, but that’s strange.
If you want to get your abs in shape and you’re the type of personal who falls victim to infomercial scams, you need a manual to understand exactly how your abs work and how to target them and isolate each individual muscle group. I recommend reading Ab Truths. It does you know good to only do one type of ab exercise. You have to confuse your muscles and constantly switch up your routine. That reason alone is why I’m vehemently opposed to these infomercial fitness products. That actually brings up another point! The Ab Lounge is really primarily for working your lower abs. And depending on what model you get, it DOES NOT fully target all of your abdominal muscles and it ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT target your obliques. You need to hit the obliques otherwise you’ll have a flat stomach with love handles and that’s not good.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from the Ab Lounge.
