There’s a new cardio machine that’s slowly making its way to fitness clubs across America. It’s called the Helix, and it’s very different. Instead of the traditional front to back motion that cardio machines like bicycles, elliptical trainers, and treadmills have, the Helix exercise equipment has a sideways lateral motion making it the first cardio equipment to specifically target the inner and outter thighs.
I think women across the world are going to love this! It wouldn’t hurt men to use it either. It works just fine for them as well.
I’ve posted a video from Helix below so you can see this thing in action:

What effect does it have on your knees and hips? This is not a natural movement. Has a physical therapist or doctor studied it?
Thanks for asking! We have worked closely with a Orthopedic Surgeon here in Boston. His specialty is hip and knee. Upon review of the Helix he immediately requested we install a Helix in his rehabilitation facility.
The movement is actually very natural. It is lateral motion. The reason the surgeon was so excited is that there is presently no way to train those muscles dynamically on fitness equipment presently in the market. The lateral motion of the Helix mimics the movements required for hockey (skating), skiing, tennis, golf, soccer etc etc. Moving from side to side and pushing in or out with the hip and leg is the movement found in virtually all sports activities and is very natural for the hip joints. Treadmills, Ellipticals etc only go front to back so the muscles that support side to side movement are not exercised. On the Helix Lateral Trainer, those “side to side” muscles are activated, trained and toned. ( think inner and outer thigh muscles)
Regarding the knees, because of the pedal position and the activation of the gluteus maximus ( your butt) the knee actually enjoys reduced stress and strain.
hope that helps!
That is a very good question. Perhaps the inventor of The Helix could answer that question. I’ll try to get him to post an answer.
